The ABBEY GENDARMERIE is an official institution of the Principality of Sabourg. For territorial management purposes, it is a non-profit volunteer association under Italian law. Its mission is to assist citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, provide first aid and support for civil defense, promote historical and cultural events, raise awareness of civic education and music among young and old, and protect the land and sea environment.
A volunteer organization presided over by His Most Reverend Highness the Prince-Abbot, Archbishop of Sabourg, assisted by a Chief of Staff.
The Gendarmerie is divided into three Divisions: Land, Air, and Sea.
These Divisions are commanded by a Director who holds the rank of Admiral or Major General.
For administrative purposes, the following have been established:
- the Academic Sub-Division;
- the Institutional Sub-Division.
The Academic Subdivision includes the:
- Joint Academy of the Abbatial Gendarmerie;
- Abbatial Gendarmerie Orchestra;
- Abbatial Gendarmerie School of Music
The Institutional Subdivision includes:
- Prince-Abbot’s Guard Corps
- Rescue Corps
- Blue Cross of Sabourg
Following the creation of the Abbatial Gendarmerie School of Music, the creation of the Conservatory of the Principality of Sabourg is currently being planned.
This project will be implemented in the future through a collaboration agreement with the Italian administrative authorities.
